This isn’t about learning swimming techniques or how to swim laps—it’s about surviving.

Your child will learn to become part
of their own drowning prevention plan.

Did you know…

Approximately 830 children ages 14 and under fatally drown every year.

70% of child drownings happen during non-swim time and don’t happen in a swimsuit.

88% of children drown with at least 1 adult present.

About one-third of these drownings occur in pools at the homes of friends, neighbors, or relatives.

These lessons aren’t just about water safety—they’re about giving our kids the chance to grow, thrive, and experience all the joys life has to offer.

As a mom of four, I understand how deeply we all dream about our children’s futures—celebrating birthdays, sharing bedtime stories, and making memories that last a lifetime.

Each survival lesson is a gift of confidence, protection, and love. It’s one small step that makes a big difference.

Their safety matters. Their future is worth it. And we’re in this together.

Desiree Whisman is a dedicated Aquatic Behavioral Specialist with over a decade of experience in self-rescue swim instruction for infants and young children, starting as early as 6 months old. Her professional journey reflects a lifelong commitment to children’s safety and well-being—first as a high school educator, then as a pediatric cardiac ICU nurse, and now as a trusted self-rescue swim instructor.

Now in her 13th year of teaching, Desiree has personally trained over 700 children in essential water survival techniques. Many of the families she has worked with have experienced the heartbreak of a near-drowning or drowning tragedy, and she brings unmatched compassion, skill, and purpose to every lesson.

Desiree’s philosophy is simple but powerful: the child is the most vital part of any drowning prevention plan. Her goal is to instill both confidence and competence in the water, laying the foundation for a lifetime of safety and enjoyment.

Her motto, SWIM-FLOAT-LIVE, is more than just words—it’s her mission.

What Parent’s Have to Say

This is such a great tool for babies-kids. My first child started at 8 mos and has loved the water. He is now 3 and can pretty much swim on his own. The biggest lesson is teaching kids how to float should they fall in. My second child is learning to swim and float at 1.5 yo. We love Desiree!

We’ve had the absolute best experience with Desiree over the past two years! She has been so patient and encouraging with my daughter, helping her build confidence in the water while making swim lessons something she truly looks forward to each week. The bond they’ve built is so special, and it’s clear Desiree genuinely cares about her students.

It is amazing to see these littles learn and master their swim-float-swim skills! In the land of swimming pools everywhere, knowing my kids have some basic and critical skills in the water is invaluable. Highly recommend Desiree!!

Class and Schedule, and Price Overview

Class Overview:

(all classes are one-on-one private lessons)

The Swim 4 Life DFW SELF-RESCUE CLASS is based on the age of your child. Children 6 month -18 months (independently sitting up) or 18 month and older will benefit from this specific, private, one-on-one, class.

In the 6 month-18 month SELF-RESCUE CLASS,
your child will learn the self-rescue skill of rolling onto their backs to float, rest, and breathe. They learn to maintain this position until help arrives.

In the 18 month and older SELF-RESCUE CLASS,
your child will learn the full self-rescue sequence of swimming until they need air, rotating onto their back to float, then rolling back over to continue swimming. Your child is taught how to repeat this sequence until they reach the safety of the steps, side of the pool, or the shoreline.
